M. W. Men, MBA, CEng, MIMechE, MIPwdE, MBIM, ACMA Mike Allen served a seven-year technical apprenticeship at Vauxhall Motors in the USA. After returning to the UK he worked in the Vauxhall Motors supplier quality assurance department as a senior QA engineer responsible for the quality of bought-out chassis components.

After studying for his MBA at Cranfield School of Management in 1976-77 he was appointed a lecturer in finance and accounting at Cranfield. In addition to lecturing he was involved in research, writing for publications, management accounting activities at Cranfield, and he also spent a short period working at ICI Plastics Division. In January 1980 he joined Babcock Power as a project accountant and later qualified for membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Afterwards he worked as project accountant at Kent Process Control, and principal management accountant at the Guided Weapons Division of British Aerospace.
