E. HAWS, Consultant
Concerning the Wyre Estuary and the stated boulder clay foundation, could Mr Matthews please give more information. At the Mersey site two distinctive bounder clay deposits have been identified. The upper is soft, and not very competent for foundations. The lower is, however, stiff and can accommodate the smaller caissons.
Secondly, what reaction has there been from the navigation interests concerning the proposed barrage?
M. E. MATTHEWS, Trafalgar House Technology Ltd
(a)The borehole report described the boulder clay as 'firm to stiff brown clay with a little sand and sub-rounded to sub-angular fine, medium and coarse gravel'.
