Mr CHAMPNISS (Paper 11)

Aircraft may divert for a great many reasons but

generally speaking these are

(a) technical reasons

(b) company reasons

(c) weather at destination airport.

Of these weather conditions are the major factor.

If one applies the average incidence of con

ditions of Categories II and III to the total

number of landings it may be thought that this

would give an indication of the probable number

of diversions 'out1. Taking the figures for

Heathrow (1.83% and 137 658 arrivals in*1975)

the figure would be 2467. In fact the figure

was 383 while for the 11 year period 1965-1975
