Considerable amounts of POL (Petrol/Oil/Lubricants) contaminated soil are produced during military vehicle washing operation on military training grounds. Therefore the AKW Apparate + Verfahren GmbH u. Co. KG planned and constructed a specialised processing plant for decontamination of the gen- erated contaminated washing sludge. Fig. 1 shows the flow sheet of the said plant.
The sludge and the used washing water is collected in existing sedimentation basins. The sediment has to be treated as waste material as long period chemical analysis showed.
