The subject of Paper 8 is of more technical

interest to American and Europe nuclear pro

grammes than the UK where BWR/PWR systems are

perhaps the only ones not features in our nat

ional reactor development programme. It pres

ents some of the most embarrassing and baffling

features encountered in the corrosion field

and, as such, makes it difficult for the plant

designer and engineer to have confidence in

their decisions. We thought it might be profi

table and instructive to these engineers to em

phasise two distinct but interdependent as

pects:
