The authors had a chance of a research program undertaken for a surface structure(site characterization of rock anchor foundations for transmission towers) with the purpose of establishing the most suitable site characterization procedure. This research program have enable us to compare various rock mass characterization methods in two different geological sites. In this paper, the authors outline the results of their comparative study and discuss the most suitable method of characterization depending upon the kind of characterization item.
