Mr J. W. Baxter, Maunsell & Partners

Could the Author say to what extent developing hitherto undeveloped sources of energy, particularly the shales and Athabasca tar sands, gives rise to environmental problems ?

Councillor J. S. Senior, West Yorkshire Metropolitan County Council

This is a very important Paper but it does not discuss energy management although the whole Paper states that energy management during the next ten years will be of extreme importance. Only by energy management techniques can one rely on the petrochemical content of the world's resources of oil being used for what it should properly be used, i.e. transportation. It certainly should not be put into domestic boilers or used for running industrial heating plants. The world has never been so profligate with its resources as it has with its energy resources.
