ABSTRACT
The biomineralisation processes of many organisms produce microstructures which are highly efficient in providing their required function. In recent years a large amount of research has been carried out to investigate ways in which similar artificial microstructures can be created in various engineering and medical applications. This paper describes preliminary research carried out at the University of Dundee into the use of bi-continuous microemulsions as a means of directing the formation of cement microstructure as it sets and hardens.
