In Romania there are big quantities of construction and demolition waste - estimated now at about 27 million tonnes. The problems of characterizing the waste in Romania are: the construction and demolition waste is not separated into its component after use, it is not stored in separate places - being mixed with urban waste in inadequate storage places, there are no big waste depots for construction and demolition waste. The foregoing features characterize the potential waste resources and affect their usage. For the coming years the estimated annual resource of construction and demolition waste (which are calculated as part of the quantity of materials involved in the rehabilitation of urban infrastructure) are about 4 million tonnes - waste coming from rural areas is supposed to be recycled locally and is not included. This paper presents the general technical plans for recovery and recycling of construction and demolition waste and offers data about the composition of this waste and about the estimated characteristics of this new source of materials. The Authors describe specific Romanian equipment which has high technical and ecological performance.
