There are a number of major components to Environmental Geotechnics; waste disposal by landfill, contaminated land, derelict land, tailings disposal, waste materials in construction, noise and ground vibrations, radioactive waste disposal. This paper contains an outline of the environmental and geotechnical consequences of the extraction and processing of mineral wastes, the disposal of the associated wastes and the subsequent land usage after extraction ceases.
