The paper presents the legal framework for and the national bodies (governmental and private) which carry out these activities, focusing on the necessity of harmonizing national with European legislation. The authors also present the main technical, safety and environmental protection criteria (with corresponding performance levels) which the mineral aggregate classification equipment must fulfil and are therefore to be analysed and/or tested against. Finally, the paper includes a practical guide for the choice and evaluation of mineral aggregate classification equipment so as to satisfy both user demand for economic efficiency and quality and also the legal requirements on environmental protection and operating safety.
