There can be no doubt that concrete will remain the global material for use in construction, certainly in industrially developed countries and even those based on agrarian economies. Concrete's availability and adaptability will remain dominant. What will change are attitudes to the use of concrete resulting from technical, functional, aesthetic and environmental concerns. Such concerns will need to be researched and such research will need educated and skilful people to do the support work. Investment in these requirements is open to question, both in scale, quality and availability. Needs and trends will be identified along with indicating how best use can be made of research effort, its results and practical applications.
