The importance of a rational standard management of infrastructure has been accepted in various countries and regions, since the economical and social losses due to the aging of road structures in the United States of America was recognized in the 1980s. It is anticipated that Japan will suffer from a more serious loss than “America in ruins” because the infrastructure in Japan was built quickly during the rapid economical growth of the 1960s and 1970s. Therefore, the objective of this research was to propose a rational bridge maintenance renewal strategy that reduces the burden of local governments who have a very limited budget. This maintenance renewal strategy takes into accounts bridge health indices, social values and renewal costs. Verification of this maintenance renewal strategy was also performed.
