Various types of underground support failed one after another during excavation of development opening in poor rocks formations in Jinchuan Mine, because the incorrect supporting principle and method have been used for about 14 years. Basing on a new principle, this paper presents a new method, which includes two-step supporting treatments. After finishing the first step shotcrete-rockbolting supporting treatment, the displacements of rocks around the opening have been successfully controlled less than 180–200 mm, and the displacement for linings less than 140–150 mm. If the displacement is more than the above mentioned data, a second step control supporting treatment is necessary.
