The corkscrew twist of the structure would not look out of place on a roller-coaster ride, except that here we are trying to keep the walkway as level and as stable as possible. The structure of the footbridge was designed to express the wildness of La Villette park into which it leads.
La Villette Park is an architectural garden designed by Bernard Tschumi around the focal point of the highly acclaimed Cite des Sciences technology museum. The east footbridge is one of two crossing the Canal de L'Ourcq which runs through the park.
The east footbridge forms a 45m long walkway connecting the south side of the canal to the museum, which is situated in the north part of the park. The line of the bridge was partly dictated by the need to maintain clearance of 6m above the canal for navigation.
