Theoretical studies on the idealisation of aerated concrete have shown that aerated concrete can present in its behaviour mechanical and thermal anisotropies due to the introduced porosity constituted of ellipsoidal pores flattened uniaxially. The aim of this work is to study the development of the macro-porosity in accordance to the different parameters of composition in order to optimise the mechanical properties of the material. Quantitative and qualitative aspects of the macro-porosity have been considered for different aerated concrete compositions. At first we have studied the influence of the composition parameters on the introduced porosity and on the mechanical anisotropy. Secondly we have studied the incidence of the introduced porosity on the strengths and mechanical anisotropy of the material. The results show a relation between the quantitative and qualitative aspects of introduced porosity and mechanical anisotropy that we have brought to the fore by the research of lightening laws independent of the composition of the basic matrixes of the aerated concrete.
