The compressive strength of silica fume and fly ash concretes were investigated with plasticizer and superplasticizer. Also the effects of some of them on the microstructure of concrete were investigated. Two types of test series were performed (Test I and Test II). In these tests, 5, 7.5, and 10% silica fume (SF) and 25 and 55% fly ash (TA) added with superplasticizer were used. They were tested under compression at their 3rd, 7th and 28th ages. Typical compressive stress-strain curves (σ − ε) for the cylindrical specimens have been drawn and the modulus of elasticity have been determined. The effects of silica fume and fly ash on the compressive strength, the gain of compressive strength by the time and the modulus of elasticity have been investigated and compared. The microstructures of some of them have been investigated by SEM/EDS system. Then the microstructural characteristics were compared. It has been tried to show how the silica fume and the fly ash affect the performance of concrete positively. Also, their optimum ratio has been determined.
