Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, located in a seismically active region, is as yet the longest and most important bridge in Bangladesh, For seismic protection of the bridge, devices consisting of steel pin dissipating elements and shock transmitter units were placed in between girders and piers. The bridge has later been instrumented with accelerometers in order to monitor the performance of the seismic devices as well as its over-all dynamic behaviour. A noise study has been conducted by analysing records of both traffic and ambient vibration. The objective of the noise study was to properly filter earthquake data off the frequency contents of traffic and ambient vibrations. However, the present paper shows the usefulness of the traffic data in monitoring different traffic conditions on the bridge. The study also shows that ambient vibration records and records of very mild tremors are also useful in understanding the dynamic behaviour of the bridge.
