Chairman:
Closing Session 2.30 p.m., Friday, 22 June, 1962
The Chairman announced that it was his pleasure and honour to introduce to the Conference Lord Reith. Lord Reith was a man of many accomplishments. Sir George went on to say that he had a whole page of Lord Reith's accomplishColquhoun & Partnersments before him, but to read them would be like reading a page from "Who's Who". Lord Reith had started life as a contractor's engineer; he had then become a soldier, Director-General of the British Broadcasting Company, a Member of Parliament, a Minister of the Crown, a naval officer, the chairman of many government committees and organizations, including the Colonial Development Corporation, and he was at that time a director of industrial and financial companies. Having before them a man of such accomplishments the Conference would desire to listen to him and not to any further words of introduction.
