PAPER THIRTEEN

Throughout the duration of this course you will hear, from time to time, of a pretty well endless hazards and risks associated with tunnelling operations. These hazards and risks are usually capable of producing :

individual accidents to persons or perhaps small groups of people;

cases of ill health to individuals or perhaps small groups of people;

incidents which result in damage to the works or the environment but not injuries to people;

near misses in which it often seems that "by chance" no damage or loss actually occurred to people or assets; and
