The earlier chapters of this book have identified and described many of the challenges faced in delivering and maintaining a built environment suitable for its occupants today, and for future generations. To deliver more and better performing buildings that use less energy and are delivered with fewer materials and resources, requires a different approach to that which has been used in the past. This chapter describes a new modelling framework that can be used for benchmarking existing models and developing new. It combines recognised methods of breaking down projects, typologies, processes, or services, and enables the benefits of new processes or technologies to be described in ways that can identify their potential impact.
