Discussion on Papers 9 and 10

DR C. QUEREE, MVA Systematica Information technology has impact to offer in three areas: management and documentation, operation of infrastructure, and the production of goods. Harmonization will be needed in all three areas if progress towards the European transport market is not to be restricted.

The Commission of the European Communities is active in these areas and I would like to mention the work done for the DRIVE planning exercise as part of European Road Safety Year with which I have been involved.

DRIVE is looking at the application of information technology to road safety on a European scale, addressing both the potential for substantial road safety improvements and the development of a successful European high-tech sector.
