P. ENGELMANN

In EBR-II there are up to 50 experimental subassemblies at a time, so the core properties are strongly determined by these experimental subassemblies. What is the procedure for ap proval of new core configurations and for the insertion of experimental subassemblies? Is the evaluation done within ANL or are external safety bodies involved?

J. A. KYGER

Before an experiment is accepted into the programme, 'approval-in-principle1 is reached among the experimenter, the EBR-II Project, and the AEC. When the experiment is ready to go int the reactor, the new core is planned by the Analysis Section and reviewed by the EBR-II Project's internal Safety Review Group.
