It is my task now to start the beginning of the end. It is really an exciting experience to escape Brussels to join the fast breeder community, the LMFBR community, the worldwide community here in London, called by BNES and giving a convincing and strong impressive conference. It is to my mind a really momentous point at which BNES has organized the meeting; a momentous point in time with regard to the big change in the field of energy supply and even to the conception, lifestyle and set of values of societies, and a momentous point in time with regard to development in the field of the fast breeder reactors. We have evidence of this in the fantastic success of PHENIX, in the criticality of the PFR, and in the wonderful experience in the Shevchenko case. This is I think the end of the first phase in the LMFBR development, and the very moment that the conference is growing conscious of the new phase of breakthrough in the field of fast breeder reactors.
