MR R. T. SUMERLING, UKAEA, Windscale
I was impressed by the efficiency with which
crud deposits could be removed from the fuel
pins in the facility described in Paper 35. How
was this achieved?
MR MATSUMOTO, Paper 35
The fuel assembly was dried in the cell for
about five hours during inspection and then put
back into the storage pool. The crud became
detached from the fuel elements during the next
stage of the examination without further treat
ment .
MR L. SMITH, Swiss Federal Institute for Reactor
Research
If I have understood Paper 36 correctly, all fuel loading and unloading of the reactor is via the hot cell facility. Is there any intermediate storage facility available to allow for the event of a breakdown of the hot cell system?
