Sedimentation has a major impact on the useful life and economic viability of many reservoirs. Traditional methods of predicting reservoir sedimentation are empirical and do not take into account many features of a reservoir that are known to affect sedimentation. This paper shows how numerical modelling can be used to provide more detailed information than other methods. The recent application of the model to large Indian reservoir illustrates the use of the model and the results which can be obtained.
