We are now over one year into the Single Market, and, although there is still work to do in fine tuning it, by and large its operation has been a success.

In December 1992, just days before the Single Market came into effect, the Commission published a White Paper on the Future Development of the Common Transport Policy, a global approach to the construction of a Community framework for sustainable mobility.

The Common Transport Policy is one of the keys to that success, contributing as it does to two fundamental objectives: the movement of people; and the free movement of goods.
