A case history is presented which describes the stabilisation of a relict landslide comprising soliflucted Etruria Marl. The project involved rigorous examination of the variation of the residual strength of the material with changing effective stress. The paper highlights the importance of accurate understanding of the geometry of the landslide mass and of the controlling porewater pressures.
