Cobb Road crosses the coastal Lias Clay landslip zone of Dorset. Constructed by the nineteenth century, it has a history of instability and despite various remedial measures further movement occurred in 1987. This paper reports the findings of an investigation into the nature of the geology and ground water conditions. The lower end of the road is on landslip material overlying an old beach while a fault has been shown to exist through the other main area of disturbance.
