In 1987–1988 landslide movements occurred seaward of Luccombe Village, Isle of Wight resulting in considerable damage to a number of properties. These movements were not the first to affect Luccombe, but they resulted in a significant extension of activity into the village and alarm to the local community. Geomorphological mapping and historical records indicate that the village was sited on an ancient landslide complex and that three major phases of ground movement have occurred since 1950.
