The main problem of reinforced concrete structures of highways and roads in snowy and glacial region is corrosion of reinforcement due to applying de-icing. By considering many advantages of steel fibres for concrete matrix, interaction between steel fibres and steel bars to inhibiting corrosion of steel bars was studied under an artificial and aggressive de-icing environment. Severe corrosion of bars was observed in non-fibre reinforced concrete even without the occurrence of any crack phenomena in the specimens by a acceleration corrosion test. However, when galvanized steel fibres and steel bars were placed in contact with each other, the galvanic behavior of fibres cathodically protected the steel bars. The non-corrosion of embedded steel bars in a galvanized steel fibre-reinforced concrete matrix indicated that galvanized steel fibres are a good method for inhibiting corrosion of reinforced concrete members.
