The Bozdoğan (Valens) Aqueduct is analyzed under the effect of gravity loads. The three-dimensional continuum problem has been simplified by an idealized discrete structure consisting of two-dimensional bar elements with two degrees of freedom at each element node. In other words, only node translations are taken into account in the calculations. Thus, the analysis of the structure has been reduced to the determination of axial forces of a big two-dimensional truss system loaded in its own plane. The geometrical properties of each bar element in the discrete system were determined. The calculations were carried out in purely linear elastic conditions. Finally, the numerical results have been compared with the ones obtained by the method of photo-elasticity. Almost all maximum stresses were within the acceptable limits for such a structure.
