An analytical model is presented for direct impact between a mass and a reinforced concrete structure. The finite element-based model includes both elastic and elasto-viscoplastic material properties to represent concrete and reinforcing steel. The procedure for detecting and modeling contact and release conditions is presented. Application of the model is illustrated by results for impact between a mass and a reinforced concrete cantilever beam.
