Construction Joint Ventures in the Project Coalition:

A Conceptual Framework

Introduction

Much of the research and best practice in construction procurement focuses on the relationship

between the client and its first tier supplier or suppliers. Important as this relationship is for the

success of the project process, it is not the whole story in governing the project coalition, defined as

the entire network of firms mobilised by the client to achieve the project mission. This chapter will

focus on developing a conceptual framework for understanding the various forms of collaboration

between firms within that project coalition, rather than their relationship with the client. Thus we
