This book is part of a series covering key aspects of the delivery of sustainable infrastructure. While the series is aimed primarily at civil and building engineers, it is also of importance to the other professionals and stakeholders involved in the planning, designing, developing, operating and maintenance of our built environment. The first volume in the series – Sustainable Infrastructure: Principles into Practice – sets out the case for addressing sustainability in infrastructure, the elements of sustainability to be considered, and the importance of this issue to engineers and others in the future development of our built environment. The subsequent volumes explore the drivers, opportunities and risks involved in a number of specific sectors. This volume deals with buildings, their immediate surroundings and their relationship to the broader urban context, and explores ways of designing them so that they contribute to a more sustainable built environment.
