Preparation, response and recovery activities are examined together here as there can be important interactions between them. For example, preparation may include the development of an emergency management plan, and response can be its implementation.

Table 11.1 provides an outline of some of the typical upfront, ongoing and complementary work required to support these options, which should be considered in any decisions taken about using these options.
