Before discussing the potential for innovative ideas to come out of these regulations, it would be useful to first determine what innovation is. And in that I will make the connection between creativity and innovation, two terms that are often interchanged. Goodman (cited in Mullins 2013) defines creativity as the application of imaginative thought that leads to innovative solutions. Ling et al. (2003), on the other hand, defined innovation, specifically within the construction industry as ‘a new idea that is implemented in a construction project with the intention of deriving additional benefits’. Writing for Forbes magazine, Henry Doss (2013) suggests that; ‘innovation is not for the faint of heart, nor for those who lack the capacity for joy.’ Doss further suggests that
