Operational management

This chapter considers the operational delivery of bridge maintenance interventions that will have been identified through the inspection and assessment processes (Chapters 6 and 7) and subsequently prioritised using the strategic and life-cycle asset management processes discussed in Chapters 3 and 4. It is important to recognise that without sound and effective inspection and asset management policies, it is impossible to deliver efficient operational management.

This chapter draws on material previously published in the two codes of practice referred to in Chapter 3 (UKRLG, 2005, 2016). The aim is to provide readers with practical applications of some of the management recommendations contained within these documents.
