Thermomechanical rolled steels are, as the name suggests, steel products that are formed using a combination of thermal and mechanical processes. These processes refine the steel microstructure and achieve improved mechanical properties.

When appropriate, procedures are employed to control such factors as temperature, thermomechanical rolled steels have good weldability, owing to their lower CEVs.

Subject to specification and quantity, structural sections may be obtained in thermomechanical rolled steel. S460M and S460ML are given as examples; however, properties may differ where grades or products are proprietary to the steel mill and care should be taken to ensure that the correct properties are used.
