Other steels

The previous chapters cover some of the more familiar steel grades used in construction. However, numerous other steels are used in the built environment, which are employed within a variety of alternative applications. The following information is provided to familiarise the reader with disparate steel names using a variety of example grades.

Those included are still of relatively wide use but are more specific in their application. Many have names that appear only superficially different but have quite distinct definitions, and others bear no resemblance to those covered previously at all. It is important to be familiar with these steels, their names and associated standards when included within designs and specifications.
