This paper addresses the way in which simulation programs with graphical output routines have been developed, and are used within North West Water to allow proactive management of reservoir systems. This approach ensures that the risk of failure of water supply may be spread across the region, thus reducing the likelihood of individual source failures. The user friendly presentation and operation of the program allows a rapid analysis and subsequent appraisal of the whole system, allowing a dynamic approach to be taken to reservoir yields as a drought event unfolds.
