Last fall, I was introduced to a book by Nel Noddings (1995) entitled Philosophy of Education. In her book, she referenced Jonathan Kozol’s (1991) book Savage Inequalities. At the time, I had not read nor even heard of his book. Several months later, I was attending an IEP meeting for my son at his school. As I scanned the bookcase in the principal’s office, the first title that caught my eye was Savage Inequalities (Kozol, 1991). The next week, I started a class and Kozol’s book was an option for me to read for a final project. The fact that Kozol’s book kept showing up in my life could not have been a coincidence, so I requested and was given the opportunity to read the book for this project. Part of me wished I hadn’ t.
