First page of Beyond Borders<subtitle>Post-Secondary School Supports and Explorations with Newcomer Students</subtitle>

Whether due to the instability in their country of origin or sudden change in environment, children newly immigrating to the United States may find their first day of school less than ideal when juggling various unique stressors that are based on personal histories and circumstances (U.S. Department of Education, 2016). Children who arrive in the United States from other countries represent a unique population that can be both culturally and linguistically diverse. They are important assets to the educational system that assist to expand the worldview and knowledge of native English speakers of the world around them (National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition, [NCELA], 2016a).
