First page of Inclusion and Equity with Multimodality During Covid-19

In this chapter, we highlight recommendations for teaching and learning, addressing issues of equity and inclusion in emergency remote teaching (ERT; Hodges et al., 2020). ERT differs from online teaching as it implies a forced, untrained and ill-prepared movement from face-to-face to online learning. While there was disorganization regarding the global ERT, we focus our chapter on the notion of inclusivity for students, teachers and community stakeholders. “It is the practices of education, those of schools and universities especially, which have suddenly and significantly been disrupted” (Peters, 2020, p. 10). However, the chapter focuses on inclusivity through the lens of multimodality as a means of overcoming the COVID-19 barriers. Thus, we emphasize how teachers created an environment in which inclusivity could flourish (Berlach & Chambers, 2011, p. 530).
