After a brief review of the physical setting of the Undercliff, the various landslide hazards which affect it are considered. Information on their nature, location and incidence is collected, chiefly from the literature and newspaper reports, from geomorphological mapping in conjunction with air photo interpretation, from sub-surface investigations and from observations of distress to roads and buildings. The available results of movement monitoring of survey datums, cracks and shears are also presented. From this database, a preliminary landslide hazard zonation map for the whole Undercliff is made. Some ways in which this can be improved are discussed.
