The study aims at ascertaining the factors governing the stability conditions of the coastal slopes of Capo Spulico. The slopes are modelled in a structurally complex clayshale formation. The climate is semi-arid. Slumps are the most common type of landslide often feeding some 100-m long earthflows. Landslide activity is discontinuous. In the latest 40 years, landsliding occurred after long periods of continuous rainfall. In the periods of moderate rainfall, landsliding was scarce. The effective rainfall regime appears to be the factor governing both intense landsliding and the slow movements of landslide bodies. As to the role played by the sea, it can be defined of “moderate erosion”.
