In the period 1945–65, considerable numbers of reinforced concrete shell roofs were designed and constructed for relatively routine jobs. This chapter considers the commercial background to this activity, and describes the layout of typical structures. The detailing of the concrete structure and the reinforcement is explained and examples of typical completed structures are given.
