Cold-forming covers a broad range of processes. These include operations such as bending, drawing and roll-forming, where steel strip is passed through sets of rolls and shaped incrementally into an engineered profile.
In addition to the properties described, a variety of additional qualities may be specified. For steels to BS EN 10139:2016, additional treatments include annealed (+A), skin passed (+LC) and work hardened (e.g., +C, +C440).
For steels to BS EN 10346:2015, a wide range of coating options are given. Example coatings include hot-dip zinc (Z), zinc-magnesium (ZM) and aluminium-zinc (AZ), which are given with their coating mass. An example specification for S450GD is given using a 275 g/m2 zinc coating and with minimised spangle (M), as-coated surface (A) and chemically passivated (C) coating qualities and treatments:
