The tools being developed to communicate design intent are becoming easy to learn and easy to use. This section covers some of the aspects of virtual design and construction, and how users can integrate this into temporary works used in construction processes and methods. The chapter introduces the tools used to identify the optimum construction methodology and how best to engage all parties in the review process to obtain the best solution.
The way to improve safety, productivity and quality is to optimise the interaction between the permanent and temporary works design and methodology, so that the solutions eliminate the hazards. Key to this is identifying the optimal solutions, which can be constructed efficiently in the right sequence. Doing so means eliminating the hazard and reducing the time required for construction, all while achieving the design intent for the final user. The integration of engineering and design is also key to success. It is critical to learn from our successes and failures, what works and what does not, and to communicate this information in a digestible way so that we can find the best solution.
