The debate on health and quality of life of professionals in the public security system in Brazil finds fertile ground in current public policies aimed at recognizing the employees of this system. This chapter introduces the reader to studies on quality of life in public security institutions in Brazil. It runs through the provision of information on the trajectory that culminated in the implementation process of the National Quality of Life Program for Public Security Professionals (Pró-Vida). Brief summaries of 15 articles published in Brazil between 2015 and 2022 were selected and presented. Subsequently, the step-by- step process of the research on health in public security, carried out between 2021 and 2022, which sought to know the institutional and regional differences of Brazilian public security institutions, is presented. An increase in academic production related to quality of life and mental health in the context of public security was observed, but there are still few studies, so new studies are required so that we have an effective model able to guide future actions. However, the research on health in public security presents itself as an important milestone of contribution to support future management actions.
